For people who hoard
Hoarding disorder is a recognised mental health condition — not a character flaw or lifestyle choice. Help is available from many sources, and the first step is understanding where you are.
Self-assessment tools
These tools can help you understand the level of clutter in your home or the strength of hoarding behaviours. They are not diagnostic — only a qualified clinician can diagnose hoarding disorder — but they can be a useful starting point.
Hoarding Rating Scale
A short five-question questionnaire. If you score more than 4 on questions 1 and 2, and also more than 4 on question 4 or 5, you may have an issue with hoarding and should seek advice from your GP.
Clutter Image Rating Scale
A visual self-assessment from the OCD Foundation — a set of images of a kitchen, bedroom and living room at varying stages of clutter. Select which picture best represents your home. A score of 5 or over on any room may indicate a hoarding problem.
