The NHS is the clearest example of how social solidarity and risk\u00a0pooling mitigate against the risk of illness and financial ruin due\u00a0<\/span>to healthcare bills. However, more than three decades of policies\u00a0<\/span>have undermined the founders\u2019 vision, contributing to the\u00a0<\/span>progressive dismantling of the system. As with education<\/span>, we need to return funding to pre-austerity\u00a0<\/span>levels in real terms, end private provision and contracting\u00a0<\/span>within the NHS in ways that build community wealth, create\u00a0<\/span>a National Pharmaceutical Service to remove the exploitation of\u00a0<\/span>the NHS by predatory pharmaceutical bodies, nationalise GP\u00a0<\/span>practices into Primary Care Networks and integrate social care\u00a0<\/span>into the NHS via Integrated Care Boards. This plan is fundamental\u00a0<\/span>to ensuring that our society is secured against avoidable illness\u00a0<\/span>and resilient against the threat of further emergencies.<\/span><\/p>

The measures we need are common sense. Privatisation has\u00a0failed, and we need to take control. As the pandemic demonstrated,\u00a0<\/span>our health and social care is at the heart of our society.\u00a0<\/span>We cannot afford to wait for another national emergency to b<\/span>uild national resilience.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Enact legislation to reinstate the duty on the Secretary of State to secure and provide services, and in turn to reinstate the NHS and social care as a planned system of publicly funded and provided care. This should be accompanied by ending contracting and by bringing services and staff back in-house.<\/li>\n
  2. Reinstate funding in real terms at pre-austerity levels.<\/li>\n
  3. Double the number of doctors, nurses and dentists trained and prioritise domestic places.<\/li>\n
  4. Introduce a National Pharmaceutical Service.<\/li>\n
  5. Nationalise GP Practices.<\/li>\n
