Dr Rebecca Wright<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Rebecca is an Associate Professor of History at Northumbria University, Newcastle and the Principal Investigator on Carbon Bodies.<\/em> Her past research has explored cultural approaches to energy, drawing on methodologies from the history of ideas and the history of emotions. She increasingly became interested in the intersections of energy and health, which led to  a smaller exploratory Research Fellowship supported by the Wellcome Trust and the Centre of For Future Health at the University of York in 2018. It was during this time that she became interested in heat as a mediator between our bodies and energy systems, which led to the Carbon Bodies<\/em> project. As the PI on Carbon Bodies<\/em> project, Rebecca is documenting how warmth has been framed in policy and a central feature of the welfare state, which will be part of a larger book project Cold Society<\/i>. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Dr Kathy Davies\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>

\u00a0<\/span>Kathy\u00a0joined\u00a0<\/span>Carbon Bodies<\/span><\/i>\u00a0as the Research Fellow\u00a0in Autumn 2025. She is leading\u00a0a strand of research\u00a0on\u00a0warm spaces\u00a0and shared heat,\u00a0exploring what\u00a0community\u00a0heating practices\u00a0and\u00a0politics\u00a0reveal\u00a0about\u00a0access to warmth.\u00a0She\u00a0is also\u00a0curating the project exhibition that opens at Newcastle City Library in October 2026.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Kathy is an historian of energy and environment with\u00a0wider\u00a0expertise\u00a0in oral history,\u00a0transdisciplinarity,\u00a0and\u00a0public engagement. Her\u00a0wider research\u00a0focuses on social, cultural, and political histories of domestic energy, air\u00a0quality, and\u00a0environmental change in everyday life.\u00a0Before joining\u00a0Northumbria University,\u00a0Kathy was Archives By-Fellow at Churchill College, University of Cambridge\u00a0(Lent 2025)\u00a0and the British Library’s first Postdoctoral Visiting Fellow in Environment and Sustainability\u00a0in\u00a02025. For the\u00a0past\u00a0two years (2023-2025) she\u00a0also\u00a0led History Lab Plus, the national network for early career historians\u00a0at\u00a0the Institute of Historical Research.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Dr Hannah J. Elizabeth<\/h3>

Hannah was the Research Fellow on the Carbon Bodies<\/em> project for 2024\/2025, and now a member of the Advisory Board. They are a cultural historian of health, welfare, childhood, sexuality and activism. They are particularly interested in how different experience or identities related to health felt to different people or communities. In the past they have worked on histories of public health and activism, particularly around HIV, childhood, and sexuality. On the Carbon Bodies<\/em> project Hannah was looking at histories of fuel poverty and heating in the North East. They were especially interested in how children experienced fuel poverty and home heating, and how regimes of thermal care differed across age groups, from infants to older people. They also\u00a0 explored how different families and communities managed their thermal needs and the varied activism which emerged in the North East around domestic heating and health.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
